The AJ Andrews Institute is an independent research organisation producing original analysis across governance, technology, science, and society. We are based in Oslo, Norway, and our work is international in scope.

The Institute was established to investigate how the systems that shape modern life — political, technological, and scientific — are structured, how they function, and what they mean for the societies they serve. We work across disciplinary boundaries because the questions we are interested in do not respect them.

Our founding initiative is the Tightrope Trust Index, a research framework that examines how institutions express trust in citizens through the systems they build. The Index inverts the conventional approach to trust measurement — which asks whether citizens trust institutions — and instead analyses the assumptions, controls, and design choices through which institutions relate to the public. Further detail on the Tightrope Trust Index and its development will be published in due course.
